Magic, put up a fight!

May 24, 2010 by

There was another disappointing loss for the Orlando Magic professional basketball team during Game 3 in the playoffs versus the Celtics. They were simply out hustled on every play. It was hard to watch because they lacked energy and let the Celtics take over the game from the very beginning.

At one point the Celtics were had a 17-point lead over the Magic. The Magic players must have been hit hard by this lead because they were never able to make a run after this. The game became the Celtic show with Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Glen Davis and Kevin Garnett making great scoring plays.  Pierce and Allen combined for 15 points and Pierce also picked up 15 rebound, while Glen Davis scored a game high 17 points.

With all the efforts by Garnett, Davis, Pierce and Allen, Rajon Rondo was the real highlighter of the game. Rondo scored 11 points and had 12 assists. Rondo is the source of energy for the Celtics and during Game 3 he showed that. During one play a guard, Williams, jogged carelessly after a ball while Rondo made the extra effort to sprint after it.  When Williams went to grab for it Rondo dived headfirst and gathered the ball.

The Orlando Magic made little effort and their coach Stan Van Gundy stated, “They were a step ahead of us on every play. I thought they worked harder than we did. I thought they out competed us.”  This loss had put the Magic in a hole and now the Celtics lead the semifinal series 3-0.  The Celtics only needs one more win to move on to the finals and the Magic needs to make a drastic change in their next game performance if they want to continue in the playoffs.

I really hope that the Magic step up in the next game because they are giving this series away to easily.  Even though I am routing for the Celtics, I’m sure fans want this series to be interesting.  Games are more exciting to watch when both teams are making a conscious effort to win.  So, Magic get it together and put up a fight. Do not let the Celtics sweep you in the series.

Mothers, act your age!

May 24, 2010 by

Nowadays, little girls are fascinated with the actors and actresses of popular movies and TV shows.  Are they Team Jacob or Team Edward? Who is the “hottest” Zack Efron from High School Musical or Cory Monteith?  As a younger girl what else do you really have to worry about, so why not focus on TV stars?

Many mothers start to feel disconnected with their children because TV has become so popular. Some mothers try to pull their children away from television and spend time with them doing other activities.  While others join their children and watch the television shows.

I recently read an article titled, Why are so many moms smitten with today’s teen idols. This article explains that mothers are beginning to watch the favorite TV shows of their children to bond. The mothers are becoming just as obsessed as the kids. One mother, Mary Irizarry, describes the relationship with her daughter, Areeana. Stating that they argue about Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner and who is better. The mom is an Edward fan because she thinks he is handsome and romantic, while the daughter likes Jacob for his strength and muscles. What happened to the normal mother and daughter arguments? The normal fights about not wanting to do what the other wants to do or daughters wanting to spend less time with their mothers.  I guess the century has put a spin on mother daughter arguments.
TeamJacob vs. Team Edward

In the article, many mothers say that their interests in the television stars make them feel young again. Specifically, one mother said, “When you’re reading the books you feel 18, and then you look in the mirror and you no longer look it. I find myself thinking I could do a face peel or something to turn back the clock.’’ This is a little sad, I must say.

I understand a mothers need to feel connected with their daughters, but becoming just obsessed with television stars as their child is pushing it. Showing some interest and spending the time with them is enough.  All mothers do not need to try in blend with their child’s generation. Sorry mothers, but you are not teens so it would be great if you act your age. Obsessing over teens is a bit gross and in some cases very illegal.

Don’t be apart of the trend!

April 18, 2010 by

Teenage deaths are increasing over the years due to car accidents. Each year there are several articles in the newspapers about teen deaths in road accidents. Either there are to many passengers, they are driving to fast or they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In 2008 Sean Mullstef died at the age of 19 from speeding in his vehicle. He lost control of the wheel and the car spun into a tree. In 2008 two teenagers died and two others were injured in a drunk driving accident. One of the passengers grabbed onto the steering wheel causing the driver to lose control.

Even though the news is always covering stories about deceased teenagers, whose deaths were cause by dangerous driving and drinking or drug influence, there are still a good amount of these accidents every year. Many organizations do campaigns to promote safe driving. Some go to schools to discuss with teenagers the dangers and risks of not driving carefully. With all the advertising and lectures provided for teenagers there is still a large of them that take the risk and end up dead.

Why do teenagers ignore the risks of driving recklessly and under the influence? Do they not care? Do they not understand? As a teenager reading on the amount of deaths of teenagers a year due to dangerous driving makes brings me fear. I never want to be in a situation that could end my life. To me safe driving is a serious matter, but lots of teenagers look past it.

Maybe teenagers do not believe that they can die from driving dangerously. I am sure that Sean Mullstef did not think that he would lose control while speeding, but he did. Teenagers need to be more cautious when behind the wheel. While driving you should have complete control and focus. It is unsafe to speed.

Teenage drivers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol make poor judgment. Maybe their judgment is clouded when they are completely “hammered.” I do not know, but teenagers should not allow themselves to get to that state, especially if they are planning on driving. The best thing to do is to stay over wherever you are or call a cab. The worst decision is to convince yourself that you are sober enough to drive.

How will we get it threw our teenage heads? Driving recklessly and under the influence is life threatening. Let us stop ignoring the advice of being safe drivers and please do so. If you see and read that many teenagers are getting killed due to risky driving, do not go out and make the same decision. Be smart!

When will it end?

April 9, 2010 by

When will it stop? The constant violence and destruction in Africa is out of hand. On March 27th Jeffrey Gettlemen published an article about the hundreds of killings and kidnappings of villagers in the Congo. These villagers were killed by the “most infamous armed group” The Lord’s Resistance Army (L.R.A.).

Africa is getting pushed back more and more in their development because of the high violence rate and killing. How are they supposed to become more successful and trying to become a powerful country if half of them are rebelling against it. With the help of the US, providing “worth of aid” for the Ugandan Army to take down those of the Lord’s resistance Army, a good percentage of the Lord’s Resistance Army was eliminated. What about the others that were not? The children who are kidnapped can replace the eliminated fighter in the rebellious group of killers because they become trained to do the same.

We may think that the killings will decrease, but the chance is that it will happen again. In many African countries people are abused, killed, kidnapped and mistreated. It is ridiculous that it is so hard to prevent this from happening. Quite a lot of these fighters are people of the country they are killing in. They show no respect to those of their land and their culture.

If most of the fighters were from the outside it would be easier to control, but that is not the case. It is very unfortunate. Children and adults have to fear these men and what can be done to them if their homes are invaded.

The massacre that happened in the Congo by the Lord’s Resistance Army was the biggest in the history of this army’s actions. They are even saying that others may be dead, but are not found because the L.R.A sometimes forces them into the jungle and kills them randomly. Reading article makes me sick to my stomach that people are being tortured for no specific reason. I do not know how the fighters of L.R.A. or any other killing army could do such harmful things to harmless people. It needs to be put to an end.

Children of less opportunities

March 28, 2010 by

Children in Africa are extremely suffering from poverty. They are limited of the chance of education, and survival. A lot of African children die at an early age due to starvation or disease. It is very sad because most of these children never are able to live a dream that wish for. Most do not have or make the time to think of goals they want in life because their chances are so slim.

Something must be done for these children. All countries must unite together to solve this issue. These children should be blessed with the chances that most children are provided. It is not fair that there is very little for them to go with their lives. I feel that as much as we say we are doing the problem is bigger than just a few can handle. With all the help of the US we have made a huge difference, but the cost of schooling for these children is an issue. Most families have a small income coming into their homes. So food is scarce and money for school. We all need to make a move together to get African children up and going into a better life.

In America we are served large portions at restaurants and buy a lot of food for our families. In Africa they have very little and some of it is infected. They do not have the proper technology and advantages that America has to test and clean meat. Lots of the children get sick from their meat and end up with deathly diseases. And those without food are continuing to lose weight and are not receiving the vitamins, protein and fat they need to survive. Children should not be dying of starvation and deathly diseases before they even get a chance to really enjoy life. Imagine waking up everyday wondering how you are going to eat or eating foods you know are infected, but having no other choice. As I sit here and think about it now I can envision how hard it must be.

Africa is going through rough patches and the children are suffering the most. Anything little or big thing that we people of any country can do would make a difference in the lives of the children. More education will give them more hope to further their knowledge and become successful. It will allow children to have goals and dreams of moving up in the world. Leading to more and more children making goals for themselves. So let’s make this happen with a great amount of help from our many countries.

Also, supplying clean meat and maybe provide some type of factories that could clean their meat so they can avoid infectious diseases.

Tears to my Eyes…

March 22, 2010 by

In Africa there are many families that have been broken due to disease and deaths. Lots of children are left alone to raise their siblings with no food or homes. Lots of families are left to the poverty life because they have no education or income. African poverty is not a pretty sight and a situation that is hard for me to see as an American.

Sometimes we Americans can be highly selfish and unappreciative of our possessions, but compared to the homeless and foodless people in Africa we have a good life. Now I am not saying that America does not have poverty, but the poverty in Africa out ways what we have here. In America there are many groups and places you could go to help you get a home and food. In Africa there is little help around to get families on track. I think that it is absolutely atrocious.

As much as America says that they are helping with sending money. We really need to provide clean water, and healthy meat for the families. A lot of the reason that families are poor is because they cannot sell infected meat because all kinds of bugs are coming from the infested waters. Is there a way to supply them with a whole different system that has clean water? Can we build factories where they can filter and clean out all the infested waters? Is there a way to help other than sending money?

Education is also a big factor in the African poverty because most do not go to school to learn reading and writing skills. Mostly because they need to provide for their families or there are no schools around. I think it is great that many celebrities like Oprah stepped up in building schools for the youth. This is great because all youth should have a chance to be educated and the knowledge to become successful in life.

Africa’s poverty needs to be decreased more and more over these next view years because we cannot let our fellow humans live in these conditions. I feel so spoiled compared because of the man experiences that I am allowed to have in America compared to African experiences. Most of their experiences are growing up fast to support their families, working hard at a young age, and manly the fear of death at any age. This can take a huge strain on the bodies of the Africans and that should not be the life that anyone should have to live.

Decisions, Decisions

March 1, 2010 by

The Boston Celtics have some hard decisions to make. Writer, Patrick Cassidy explained in his article, The Trade the Boston Celtics Need to Make Today that the Celtics management needs to repair their team. Cassidy’s opinion states that the Celtics should pick up Kirk Hinrich from the Chicago Bulls to be Rajon Rondo’s back-up point guard. With the trade being that they pick up Hinrich and trade Eddie House, Tony Allen, and Brian Scalabrine.

I have to say Patrick Cassidy that the addition of Hinrich would be very helpful to Rondo. He has handled pressure very well being a young point guard leading the Celtics. He hardly gets a break; playing almost 40 minutes a game in over 80 games a season.  Rondo could use someone like Hinrich stepping in for his to give him a break. Honestly, we need Rondo to be 100% all the time, especially in the playoffs.

If the Celtics were to trade Tony Allen and Brian Scalabrine for the incorporation of Hinrich it would be a great move. Allen is primarily known for his defensive skills. While Scalabrine is more of an old school favorite of the fans that has not contributed much to the Celtic wins. Hinrich could replace these two players and bring more to the court. He is a smart, skilful point guard that could not only back up Rondo, but another quick defender, shooter, and another exceptional leader.

My only disagreement with Cassidy’s statements is that the Celtics trade Eddie House. Eddie has been a great asset to the Boston Celtics team. He is a consistent three-point shooter that stepped up significantly in the playoff games of the 2007-08 season. I approve with the trade as long as House remains on the team. He works hard and gives his all during every minute he is on the court. With a reliable player of House’s skill the Celtics can throw him out there to step up defensively and offensively.

So Patrick Cassidy, this trade would be perfect if Eddie were to be left out of it. The team would be more complete with a second point guard of the same quality as Rondo. Most of all, with Hinrich and House, the Celtics can continue success and make their way toward an 18th NBA championship victory.

Umm…Try again Tay!

February 22, 2010 by

CMT News says that there is bad news for us Taylor Swift fans. She had a small role in the movie Valentine’s Day. CMT I shed no tears during this film because I believe that T-Swift failed horribly. She definitely made the most out of those 10 minutes. She can officially be a role model for ditsy, non-intelligent blonde girls. T-Swift has defined blondes as dumber. So, nice try Taylor, but I was not a fan of your performance and you deserved 5 seconds instead of 10 whole minutes. What do you fans think?

I know we all hoped that Taylor would come through for us, but she was a huge disappointment. I thought, how cute that Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner will be a couple in Valentine’s Day. Well, I think Lautner should have dumped her in the movie for her extreme annoyance. Why? Why? Why was Taylor given this part?  Is she trying to downgrade her image? Seriously Taylor your choice to become an actor was not right; try something else.

Swift said to CMT that the number 13 was her lucky number, just like in the movie. Taylor, I do not know if your lucky number helped you out on this role. The lucky number 13 is becoming the ugly, unlucky 13, but I have to say that my “favorite” part of T-Swift’s acting was when she is speaking to a TV reporter about her being on the dance team. Continuing with her embarrassing attempt to “pop” her butt and “get low.” What a great way to grasp your audience. Honestly, the best thing her character did was showing a good example for teens and teenage sex. She says to Lautner’s character about sex,  “We’re gonna wait.” At least she received one good line.

Taylor Swift’s not the first country singer to try out acting says CMT News. But all the work those singers did was through down the drain by Taylor’s performance. Please, please, Taylor, make wiser decisions when it comes to your movie roles because I do not think I can handle another 10-minute catastrophic role.

CMT News needs to rethink their comments that “she passes with flying colors, ” in the movie Valentine’s Day. I disagree that she passed. She deserves an F. Sorry Tay! Better luck next time.

T-Swift on the Rise!!

February 7, 2010 by

Congrats to Taylor Swift for breaking chart records and selling millions of albums! Apparently, she has more in store for us. Who would not be excited for a new Taylor Swift album? The up and coming star has become very successful at a fast pace. Reaching a great success of winning Grammy awards. You go Taylor! I am glad to here that she is working on new material and that “awkward fist pumps” happened during the process. I guess the Jersey Shore has started a trend, but with Taylor Swift. She does not seem like much of a “fist-pumper.” Is her fourth album going to be techno, rave, “fist pumping” music? Taylor took a two-year break after her previous album Fearless album in 2008 and I am ready for another. John Mayer and Keith Urban influenced this fourth album. How fun is that? Who doesn’t want to hear the styles of those artists through a female’s voice?

I have never heard the “T-Swizzle” rap, but just the thought of Taylor Swift rapping makes me raise an eyebrow. Even her rap name “T-Swizzle”    makes me laugh. With her being introduced with this name I would not take her seriously. I mean she’s a tall blonde country singer. Never seen someone with those characteristics become a rapper. Have you? But who am I to judge if she wants to try out different genres? Hey, Taylor, have fun with it, I guess. Tour, Tour, Tour! Taylor’s Fearless tour this summer should be exciting. I am planning on getting tickets at this very moment. Not only is she going on tour, but also she’s in a movie, Valentine’s Day. I had no idea she was in it and I have definitely watched the previews a couple times. Now there is another reason for me to be excited about going to see this film. Hooray, Hooray to Taylor for moving forward with new, exciting, music and stepping up in the acting world. My only request is that there not be a rap song on her next album. I do not know if I could handle that!
